ZVOX 4003201 Audio Z-Base 320 Low-Profile Single Cabinet Sound System

ZVOX 4003201 Audio Z-Base 320 Low-Profile Single Cabinet Sound System

Only 3 3/8″ high, 24″ wide and 11.5″ deep, the Z-Base 320 system can fill your room with rich, satisfying 3D sound – including thumping bass response – with no external speakers, subwoofers or speaker wires! The 320′s sound quality is excellent because we use high performance speakers and amplifiers. And unlike any other sound bar in its price category, the Z-Base 320 uses a wood (MDF) cabinet – not plastic. Since the complete system is only 24″ wide and 11.5″ deep, so it will fit on almost any furniture or bookshelf. It’s the ideal size for use with most TVs from 27″ to 42″ in size. And it works really well as a desktop audio system for your computer. Hookup is super-simple – just one connecting wire and a one-page owner’s manual. You can even teach the ZVOX 320 to respond to your TV or cable box remote control! If you want great TV sound without the complexity…without the mess….and without the high price, the Z-Base 320 is the right choice for you.

  • Surround Sound Without Multiple Speakers & Wires
  • No External Subwoofer – Everything’s Built-In
  • Great Computer Sound System – Fits Under Your Monitor
  • Super-Clear Vocals

All TVs should sound this good, February 2, 2012

This review is from: ZVOX 4003201 Audio Z-Base 320 Low-Profile Single Cabinet Sound System (Electronics)

I was looking for a sound system for our 32″ Samsung LCD TV to provide a more cinema-like experience for movie viewing. We live in a small apartment in NYC, and I didn’t want a traditional 5:1 surround system with speakers jammed in all corners, wires, etc. I got excited when I saw the various soundbars offered by various brands, but they all stretched far longer than I wanted to deal with and would have had to have been wall mounted, another thing I wanted to avoid. So after a bit of searching I ran across a review that placed three ZVOX systems at the top of their ranges. Which led to further research on the ZVOX site and I found the perfect solution in the 320: a soundbar in a pedestal that the TV sits on, and which doesn’t extend off the edges of the table! Apparently the 320 is a relatively new offering, replacing the older, boxier 325, which seems to have received high marks. So I gave it a chance and it arrived yesterday. First off, the unit fits perfectly and discreetly under the TV’s built-in pedestal and disappears. It’s nicely styled, attractive in a slightly retro way yet looks fresh and contemporary. No junky lights or buttons but a very clean front. Nothing stays lit for more than a few seconds when powering on or changing a setting with the remote, a feature I love. I don’t care for the distraction of equipment LEDs near the screen and this box is perfectly dark. After some fiddling with disabling my TVs built-in speakers I got it working. It learned the volume, mute and power buttons on our Time Warner cable box remote after going through a learning routine, clearly explained in the instructions. But note, DO turn off your TV during this routine else you will find your TV volume going through the roof while you wait for the ZVOX to confirm the frequency. I’m sure our upstairs neighbors lost their minds last night before I figured this out. And you must disable your TV’s own speakers otherwise you will get an unpleasant echo effect. It takes a little work but I got it working. The 320 brings a clarity to the sound that I didn’t realize we were missing. I leave the DE setting on all the time to enhance dialogue. It’s amazing how well it works without sounding too tinny. You still get mids and bass along with exceptionally crisp spoken dialogue. It’s still new to our home, so I will report back after we’ve watched our first DVD movie, but so far so good and very glad we took a chance. Not cheap. But you will wonder why all TVs aren’t manufactured to sound as good as this does.

This review is from: ZVOX 4003201 Audio Z-Base 320 Low-Profile Single Cabinet Sound System (Electronics)

I now own two Zvox systems. The first was the 580 model for my 46 inch Sony TV and I was so impressed with it that I also purchased this 320 model for the bedroom to go below a 32 inch TV. The truth is some people want better sound out of their TV, but can’t be bothered with the hassle and complication of setting up a home theater system to complement a great TV picture with lousy built in speakers, so they either make do, spend money on something with wires and speakers all over the house, find a soundbar or go in the Zvox direction. Priority one was to have a no hassle installation. After turning the built in Tv speakers off and connecting the Zvox to the TV using the optical cable, I was pretty much good to go. The only thing left to do was program the cable company’s remote to work with the Zvox and I was up and running in 5 minutes.

Since I’m speaking for the 320 model and not the 580 model, my first concern was that the three smaller speakers on the 320 wouldn’t be enough in comparison to the 5 larger speakers on the 580, but I was pleasantly surprised. There’s more than enough volume there to fill a decent sized bedroom with crystal clear audio and although the 320 doesn’t have the big bass of the 580 model, it still holds its own. What you’ll find with buying any Zvox model is they are built solid and the speakers are of quality. No vibration or distortion and if you ever have issues with hearing dialog from TV or movies, this is the solution. The DE ( dialog emphasis ) button brings voices front and center. If you ever have a problem following dialog on the screen, turning on DE will solve it. Music sounds great as well. I choose the surround sound 2 setting with the audio level turned on to give the music some soundstage. The surround sound won’t bowl over true home theater guru’s, but it does work.

Bottom line is this is a good quality, easy to install, great sounding sound box and you could do a heck of a lot worse spending money on this all in one unit to get the best out of your TV.

I wont get into a long and detailed description of this product other than to say I’m very particular about the quality of my electronics and this product ranks among the very best peices I’ve ever purchased. I live in a relatively small condo in the NYC area and space (and asthetics) is definitely a priority. The sound and build quality of this piece is extraordinary, to say the least. Forget about cumbersome multi piece units, wires, and speaker placement of some of these other surround systems. This one piece has it all. Four years ago I spent twice as much on a Bose Wave radio to serve the very same function as the ZVOX 320 is serving today (in a different room). This is a truly amazing sound bar. The sound is incredible. You wont miss a thing, and when connected to the digital optical connection, it will blow you away. I HIGHLY recommend this as an alternative to a multi piece 3.1 or 5.1 system. The set up is dummy-proof, and programming your universal cable remote literally takes minutes. I thank my brother everytime I see him for suggesting I buy this sound bar. The DE and DL functions allow you to control TV commercial volume and voice enhancement (for news shows, documentaries, or anything where you prefer dialogue enhancement). If you’re looking for one piece to replace those horrible TV speakers and bring amazing digital sound, this is it…..no question.
